Hop On Brewery Tours
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a brewery tour?
Our brewery tours focus on education and appreciation. We get guests out – locals and visitors alike – and show them the ropes of beer! Starting the day with a basic education about ingredients, tasting methods and the brewing process, we then sample a range of styles and flavours that showcase the diversity of the beer world.
The day is not physically demanding in any way, and while we do offer a tour of (at least) one of the breweries, guests with any special needs are able to sit if needed and/or go at their own pace.
It’s not a pub crawl or party bus, it’s about learning a few new things, chatting with the brewers who make your beer, and discovering some new venues you may not have visited before.
How much does your brewery tour cost?
Great question! Our prices range depending on which tour you’re doing. A half day tour, visiting three venues, costs $149 per person and includes all of your beer samples. A full day tour ranges from $189-209 per person (depending on which one it is) and includes all of your beer samples plus lunch.
We also have some awesome package deals, combining a brewery tour with virtual reality, axe-throwing, or go-karting, and prices will vary for those options as well. If you are unsure, check on the tour page for further details or give us a call on 0459 207 622.
Is there an age limit to do a brewery tour?
You must be 18 years or older. Our venues may ask for ID so make sure you bring some, preferably a driver’s license. If you can’t legally drink, you won’t have much fun anyway.
How much beer do I get on tour? Can I buy more?
Our tours are fully inclusive, meaning we supply all the beer you need. Each venue on the tour includes roughly 4-6 x 150ml beer samples at each venue, which adds up to quite a bit! No one has ever finished the day and said they didn't get enough to drink.
We absolutely suggest you take advantage of visiting the breweries and buy beer on site – you never know where you might next get it - but ONLY for takeaway! While you will receive plenty of delicious beer samples during our visits, our craft breweries offer takeaway cans, bottles and/or growlers.
Do you sell gift cards?
We offer gift cards in denominations of $50, $100, tour-specific vouchers or vouchers valued at the price of a half day, full day, or distillery tour.
You will be asked for the names of the guests when purchasing gift cards; if you are giving a gift and unsure who might be traveling with the recipient (ie you are purchasing for your partner and an extra one for them to bring a friend along), add the name of the recipient to each field. At the time of booking the actual names can be entered.
You will be asked for a preferred pick-up location when purchasing a tour-specific gift voucher; select any of the options at this stage. When it comes time to make the booking, the guest can select which option is best for them.
Multiple gift voucher codes can be entered when making a booking; there is no need to make a separate booking per voucher. If you are applying a half day voucher to a full day tour, you will be required to pay the difference at the time of checkout.
Gift cards are valid for 3 years from the date of purchase and are not returnable or redeemable for cash.
Will I get drunk?
It’s possible you may get tipsy on one of our tours – we’re plying you with delicious, easy-drinking brews, many of which have a higher alcohol content than you may be used to! – but that isn't the end game.
Our tours focus on education and appreciation, which means taking the time to enjoy each beer sample we provide you. Whilst there is a fair amount of beer involved in the day, we do not allow drinking on the van and we strongly discourage additional purchases at the venues we visit. To put it simply, the day is not a pub crawl or booze bus, but a way to taste and learn about different varieties and flavours in beer.
Please note that Hop On Brewery Tours reserve the right to ask you to stop drinking (trust us, we’re looking out for you). We will also take any action we deem reasonable, including removing you from the tour (with no refund and no way home), to ensure the tour remains safe and enjoyable for all guests. See T&Cs for further legalese should this situation arise.
Each venue has the right under the Responsible Service of Alcohol laws to stop serving you. You may also be asked to leave the venue.
Please remember, it’s about better beer – not more beer.
What should I wear?
We suggest wearing enclosed shoes as we will be visiting working breweries which may have that as a requirement – and we would hate for you to miss out on something cool due to footwear (or possibly step in something you’d rather not). If your toes are showing you may be asked to wear a pair of the brewer's gumboots for safety. Not a sexy look. The choice is yours.
Aside from that, wear something comfortable and that you are happy to pose for photos in.
Where do you pick up/drop off?
Each tour has a specific pick-up point listed, as these differ for our Brisbane and Gold Coast tours. Drop off points also vary, but you’ll either end where you began or at a beer bar of your choice from our list of partners.
Can you pick me up from my home/hotel?
If you are part of a group of 4+ guests all departing from the same location that is not one of our designated pick-up points, please contact us directly and we may be able to arrange private pick up.
Do you offer group/private/charter tours? Do you have a minimum number to run?
Sure do. You can call or email us to let us know what you’re looking for and we are happy to work something out. Please note we prefer a minimum of 6 people to make a tour private; our public tours require a minimum of 4 guests to operate.
I don’t see the breweries I want to visit all on the same tour – can you create one for me?
Of course! Is there a brewery you’re keen to visit but it’s not included in the tour you most want to go on? Let us know and we are happy to work with you and create a tailored itinerary for you/your group. We need a bit of advance warning, though, so please ensure you give us a heads up. Private bookings only.
What if I have to cancel my booking?
We’ll be awfully sad to see you go, but check our cancellation policy to see what applies to you:
- between 0 (day of tour) and 7 days before the tour: no refund
- 8 -14 days before the tour: 50% of the tour price paid per person
- 15 days or more before the tour: 100% of the tour price paid per person less non-refundable processing fee of 5%
Do I need a reservation? How do I pay?
Reservations are required. Book on our website by selecting your preferred tour and going through the steps until you receive your email confirmation. We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, American Express and direct deposit. We can’t take cash on the day, unfortunately, because the ATO doesn’t particularly like that.
Can you cater for specific dietary requirements when lunch is included?
No problem. Let us know what they are when you book so we can make the necessary arrangements with our partners. You get to order the day of the tour, and our menus have something for everyone.
Even when lunch isn't included in the tour, it will be available from purchase at many of the venues we visit, and most can cater to any dietary requirements.
Can you accommodate wheelchairs/vision impairment/hearing impairments?
Whilst we do not have a wheelchair lift in our van, there is plenty of space if the wheelchair is one that folds up and the guest is able to stand briefly while getting in/out of the van. All of the venues we visit are wheelchair friendly as well, with most situated on one level.
We have had the pleasure of welcoming many guests over the years with varying degrees of vision impairment, so please join us. Just advise when booking if you will be accompanied by a guide dog so we can ensure there is plenty of space.
Our team is signed up to begin to learn AUSLAN for guests with hearing impairments, but we're not quite there yet. Please feel free to contact us directly and we can work out a way for you to get the best experience during your tour.
Can I drink on the bus? A roadie or two?
NO. By law there can be no drinking on the bus. You really won’t need to anyway. Trust us, there is going to be plenty of beer at each venue.
And please don't keep asking if we'll break the rules. You'll just annoy us and get mid-strength beer served to you.
What if I'm not a beer geek?
That's great! We love helping introduce "non-beer-drinkers" to the wacky world of microbreweries! From refreshing lagers to biting IPAs and sweet ambers, we are here to educate and help you find a beer that you will appreciate and enjoy. It doesn't matter if you think you've tried them all or if you normally drink shandies - come with us for an unforgettable experience.
Do you accept bucks/hens parties?
Yes, we absolutely do! We have a few rules around them, though, including the fact that there is strictly no drinking on the vehicle(s) and we don't encourage additional purchases at the venues we visit. We want you to have a great time, and with our focus on beer education and appreciation, you get plenty of beer tasters included. Our tours are a perfect warm up for what may turn into a big night out!
Please note that certain breweries do not allow bucks/hens parties. We comply with their wishes; therefore some itineraries may be altered from what is listed online to ensure we maintain an awesome relationship with everyone in the industry. If you have a specific request or concern, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.
